The Ramadan Success Plan
One of the greatest and best things any human being could ever achieve is a level of Taqwa. Nurturing it impacts every sphere of our life.
Nurturing it is much simpler and more practical than most people might think. This is important to understand because nurturing Taqwa serves us in the best possible way.
In the Science of the Nafs, we view Taqwa as an action, something you do.
The Ulamaa have summarised Taqwa into three categories.
Love, hope, and fear. We need a good balance of all three to create the success we’re looking for in life.
Now this fear is not the scary, debilitating fear that makes us run from Allah. It’s not fear that you see when people terrorise each other or behave badly.
Rather, it’s the fear that preserves us and keeps us guarded from harmful things for ourselves and others.
The love and hope are what drive us to optimise our lives and thrive. It brings it all into balance.
Through Ramadan, Allah gives us a training ground so we can prepare for the rest of the year and the rest of our lives.
As we know, Siyaam is about abstinence. It’s an obligation. Allah commanded us to do it and within it, there’s so much good for us.
The abstaining in this month trains us mentally and spiritually and we gain strength, power, and even calmness. Things we’re yearning for all the time.
Sometimes, we may think of obligations as being hard or being a burden but that’s not Allah’s intention, because He doesn’t give us what we can’t handle.
Allah(swt) tells us in the verses that He wants ease for us.
In this, we see Allah’s mercy because even in prescribing the Siyaam which is good for us, there’s a get-out clause if you’re sick, travelling, or unable to observe the Siyaam.
Many times we get into circumstances and automatically we think, ‘Why is Allah making my life so difficult?’
We don’t always say it, but we think or feel it.
What we should do instead is be intentional with our thinking. That’s the power you have so that’s what you have to choose.
The prerequisite is Belief and then nurturing the Taqwa by connecting to Allah and nurturing your heart.
It’s like an inner reset. Ramadan is the training and every day is a new opportunity for connection, personal growth and self-mastery.
Human beings are forgetful by nature so we lose track sometimes, but we can get back to the path by getting back to Belief.
This is why Ramadan is so special. Ramadan is the month of the Quran and it was revealed in this month.
It was revealed as a guidance for humanity, not just the Muslims, not just the believers.
When you reset and get back to the Belief, you connect to Allah, make Istighfaar, and follow the guidance.
You can’t get lost. This sets you up for success.
